A model satellite was constructed and connected to a model mover motor that could be accurately controlled from the Cyclops motion control system. This motor allowed the model to spin about its axis for greater flexibility of camera path. All the moves were planned and programmed on set according to director Tony Scott’s instruction. Each shot required many elements to be filmed as separate passes including mattes and lighting effects. Close up photography techniques were used to achieve maximum scale without loss of focal sharpness.
